- Synopsis
- Radio play. Peter Straughan’s "dark comedy of ambition, desire and self-deceit" (BBC Radio 3 Publicity), written in response to Julius Caesar, is set in a a run-down apartment block in contemporary Istanbul where the would-be dictator, Lutz (Henry Goodman) hides with his paranoid companion Coiler Joseph Alessi), and prepares to seize power.
The play has been developed and recorded with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company. The music, specially written by Adrian Lee, is also performed by the composer and George Hadjineophytou. - Series

- The play is part of BBC Radio 3’s contribution to the Complete Works Festival in Stratford-upon-Avon, during which every one of Shakespeare’s plays is being staged.
- General
- According to the BBC Radio 3 press release, Straughan developed the play from the speech in which Brutus contemplates the consequences of assassination (II.1.63-69).
- History
- A single rehearsed reading by the RSC Acting Company, prior to recording the play for broadcast, was enacted in the Swan Theatre 6 October 2006.
