- Fourth in a series of episodes, broadcast over five consecutive days, devoted to music inspired by Shakespeare’s plays. Peggy Reynolds presents the following pieces of music:
Extracts from Khachaturian’s Suite: Othello, performed by the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, conductor Adriano; Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s "The Soldier Drinks" is performed by Anne Victoria Banks (soprano) an William Wellborn (piano); Rossini’s "Nessun Maggior Dolore" from his Otello, Act 5, with Frederica von Stade, Nucci Condo and Alfonso Leoz supported by the Philharmonia Orchestra, conductor Jesus Lopez-Cobos; Grainger’s "Willow Song" is performed by Sarah Walker (tenor) and Graham Johnson (piano); extracts from Verdi’s Otello with Ramon Vinay (tenor), Herva Nelli (soprano) and the NBC Symphony Chorus and Orchestra, conducted by Arturo Toscanini. - Series
