- Synopsis
- Two-part radio programme in which psychoanalyst and former England cricket captain Mike Brearley tries to understand and define the art of the theatre director. Through interviews with directors Katie Mitchell, Sam Mendes and Peter Hall, and actors Juliet Stephenson and Simon Russell Beale, Brearley charts some of the skills required, the relation between text and director (Shakespeare’s texts in particular), director and actor, and the various challenges that form part of the director’s work.
