Sally Jacobs

Synopsis
Theatre designer Sally Jacobs talks to Christie Carson. Jacobs reflects on working with Peter Brook on A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the impact of the ‘white box’, and with John Barton on a production of Twelfth Night for the RSC. She speaks of metaphor in design for Shakespeare, the changing view of the ideal space to stage the plays and different audience expectations of how a production should look. She also mentions briefly multicultural casting, negative attitudes to plans to replicate Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and Shakespeare and the British theatre.
