- Synopsis
- Melodrama. Alexandra Tranda awaits her father’s return. When the carriage comes up the drive she discovers his dead body hanging over the splashboard: he has been shot. Later her mother marries John Arnold, an old friend of the family. Alexandra sees parallels in Hamlet. She persuades her mother to give a garden party and with the assistance of some clowns from a circus she gives a version of the play scene from Hamlet. She believes she sees guilt in her stepfather’s reactions and kills him. She is arrested and as she awaits trial a young farmer confesses to the murder. Alexandra joins the circus. When her mother urges her to come home she throws herself from a height during a sensational act and dies in her mother’s arms.
