- In his review of the stage production as shown at the theatre festival in Berlin, John Rouse comments: "The Berlin artist Dieter Hacker provided only a bare raked stage and encased the actors in long, colorful robes and wonderfully expressive full-head masks.
Steckel focused our attention on the text, per-
formed almost uncut. He helped himself by mak-
ing a new translation that often spoke better than
the original. But mostly he relied on the astound-
ing rhetorical ability of his ensemble, particularly
Peter Roggisch (Timon) and Armin Rohde (Flav-
ius). We know that the theatre spent most of its
history creating reality through language; this pro-
duction proved how much it still can." ('The 28th Berlin Theatertreffen’, Theatre Journal, 44:1 (1992), p. 104).
