Healing Years, The

Synopsis
A thirteen-part television series, presented by Richard Ouzounian, on the history of the Stratford (Ontario) Shakespeare Festival. Episode 8 follows artistic director John Neville who turned around the Festival as it was facing declining audiences and a budget deficit. Includes footage from the CBC productions MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING (tx March 20 1988) and THE TAMING OF THE SHREW (tx 2 April 1989) (both titles catalogued separately). Neville discusses how John Hirsch’s campaigned against him for the directorship and why he decided to stage some of Shakespeare’s less performed plays. Actors talks about their experiences of working with Neville.
