Synopsis
Documentary on the Royal Ballet, focusing on rehearsals for Kenneth MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet and Frederick Ashton’s Monotones. No.2. In voiceover commentary Ashton talks about the Company, the importance of the Romeo and Juliet production with multiple casts; and the creation of Monotones. Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, Lynn Seymour and Christopher Gable are seen rehearsing the three big pas de deux (balcony scene, crypt, bedroom). The ballet’s designer, Nicholas Georgiadis confers with Covent garden staff members on the sets and discusses details of a costume with Lynn Seymour. Anthony Twiner is the pianist and the film is presented by Peter Snell and Ion Voyantzis.
