Notes

General
Barber, Hayward, Morris and Snell alternated the role of Boy; it is not known who played the part in this recording.
History
Produced at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford-upon-Avon, 9 May-13 July 2002; and at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, London, 27 July-22 August 2002.
Stills
'The play is located in Messina, and Doran’s production more pointedly places the proceedings in Fascist Sicily in the 1930s. The demobbed black-shirted soldiers who troop on to Stephen Brimson Lewis’s warmly lit, terracotta courtyard are evidently just returned from Mussolini’s conquest of Abyssinia’. {Paul Taylor, The Independent, 15 May 2002).
