Notes
The production opened at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, press night 3 August 1994. There were some changes to the cast in the transfer to the Barbican and on Broadway. The National Video Archive of Performance recorded the production on three cameras at the Barbican 19 August 1995, and the Royal Shakespeare Company on single cameras at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre 16 September 1994 and at the Barbican 29 April 1995. These recordings are catalogued separately.

Adrian Noble’s 1996 film was based on the design and concept of this stage production.
Awards
Anthony Ward won an Olivier Award for Best Costume Designer for this production.
