Hamlet
- Synopsis
- Mark Lawson talks to Gregory Doran and Patrick Stewart at the National Film Theatre following a preview screening of Doran’s televised production of Hamlet with David Tennant in the title role and Patrick Stewart as Claudius. Doran talks about directing a stage production for television (citing MACBETH which he directed with Antony Sher as Macbeth) where he wants to re-create the immediacy of watching a stage production. He values the programme as an archival record. Patrick Stewart says stage acting is about action while film acting is about thinking; he speaks of his initial nervousness when acting in front of a camera. Doran notes that filming in HD gives a more cinematic look to the programme.
