Synopsis
Barbara Bogaev talks to Douglas Lanier about Duke Ellington’s ‘Such Sweet Hunder’, a collaboration with the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. Recorded in 1957, it is made up of twelve compositions, co-written by Ellingtona nd his regular collaborator, Billy Strayhorn, all inspired by a Shakespeare character. These include Othello, Macbeth and Lady Macbeth, Henry V, Julius Caesar, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and others.
