Career

Bill Best was a sound engineer who worked for Gaumont British News, his first credit being with cameraman Eddie Edmonds [qv] filming ‘BRITISH GAMES AT WHITE CITY’ for Gaumont British News No.2024 of May 1953. In February 1954 they again worked together filming a rugby match that wasn’t used in the reel. When ITN started in September 1955 Best was an early recruit, and in July 1956 he was involved in the sound news report that helped to make ITN’s reputation, when he went with cameraman Stan Crockett [qv] and reporter John Hartley to cover a strike at Longbridge.
