Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Fall of Asmara & Massawa. DESCRIPTION: Imperial forces continue their advance into Eritrea and capture Asmara. They then move on to take the Red Sea port of Massawa. SHOTLIST: The roads leading to Asmara are repaired by Indian Sappers. Next Italian emissaries came to seek terms, including among them the Bishop of Asmara and the Chief of Police. The conference is conducted inside a bus. Then the party drives to the Capital. Afterwards at Government House, General Platt greets British and Italian officers. At Adi Ugri, British prisoners were just tunnelling out of their Prison camp. At Massawa the roads were smashed up, but Italians captured were put onto clearing up. The Italians would not agree to surrender, so the fight was continued. The fight was quickly won, and prisoners by the score fell into our hands. Everything in Massawa had been smashed up, tanks, ships, ammunition. Shots of Admiral Benotti. Commander of Massawa. The story finished with a shot of the Duke of Aosta who surrenders in Abyssinia.
