- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: War Heroes in Washington, and New York. DESCRIPTION: Ten British and five American War Heroes were welcomed in New York by Wendell Wilkie and took part in a War Bond Rally. At Washington they were received by President Roosevelt. SHOTLIST: Secretary of the Treasury, Morgenthau, welcomes the British and American war medal men. He initiated their nation-wide tour to promote War Bond sales. At the White House, President Roosevelt receives winners of decorations for valour, men who have been honoured for heroism and sacrifice. The First Lady and British Ambassador, Lord Halifax, were also present. In New York: 15 United National heroes are greeted by Wendell Wilkie. They drive up the Broadway sitting on the back-seats of the cars. Crowds cheer all the way along. Mayor La Guardia makes a speech. Crowds gather in the City Hall Plaza, where they are welcomed by La Guardia. There is a big reception in Madison Square Garden where you see the men line up on the platform. The Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes are hoisted to the roof. One of the heroes is Ensign Donald Mason of the US Navy, who is introduced by Mayor La Guardia. Nettleton, VC is also present. Sergeant Herbert, (Commando) British Soldier, makes a short speech. There is a procession uptown. Extra police hold the crowds in check. Crowds shouting.
