Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: ‘Cracking the Axis’. DESCRIPTION: Our Soviet Allies have been scoring great success in driving the Germans from Russia. In North Africa we have had victories at Alamein and driven Rommel back across the desert. The Germans and Italians have been defeated in Tunisia. After the capture of Sicily we advance onto the Italian mainland. SHOTLIST: US Flag, Union Jack and Red flag fly together. Street scenes in Moscow - Government buildings, etc. Look down shot of parade of Russia’s might - guns, lorries, hundreds of troops carrying rifles march past. CU of Stalin. Desert - Infantry march single file up hillside. Near shot of General Wavell (1940) in Middle East and troops. Troops feet across sand. British patrol goes forward. Long lines of prisoners. General Auchinleck inspects troops. Takes salute at march past. Two soldiers behind hedge and CU of each. CU General Alexander and General Montgomery. LS of desert. Night barrage. Infantry advance through barbed wire. Smoke in distance. US planes in formation (Baltimores?). Bombs go down. Aerial of target. Map along coast of Libya. Tanks advance some loaded with equipment stores, etc. Montgomery kisses women in Tunisian town. Lorry load of troops into camera along road. British and US troops meet. CU handshake.
