Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Gustav Line Broken. DESCRIPTION: The battle for Rome is being resumed in full force. This story shows British and Indians cracking through the Gustav Line. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Jeep, followed by 17 pounder guns towed by lorries, move along roadway near River Gari. Sherman tanks moving up, in & out of camera. GS British infantry march along road into camera, & past camera. On Cassino front, near Amazon Bridge, LS of moving mists & smoke screens. Various shots of mortars being fired, more Shermans move up. CU muzzle of howitzer. Vickers machine guns being fired from gun post, silhouette of the two soldiers firing same. LS type of country. More Shermans move up along roads, across fields. Various shots of German Parachute troops being brought in by British & Indian troops (Gurkhas, one has knife? in hand). POW walk along into camera. Camouflaged with twigs, leaves etc, Sherman tanks move along road. Aerial shots of formations of Marauders (B26). Aerial shot of railroad bridge south on Incisa in Valdarno (Rome-Florence railway line). Bomb leaves plane, falling, & hitting smack on the target. Explosions on bridge & around, two bridges (separate) got direct hits. The other bridge Poggibonsi Bridge, at Cacina. All Aerial material is USAAF, the balance is AFU.
