MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: News From the Far East. DESCRIPTION: Kowloon - A certain amount of international tension has arisen over who would re-occupy Hong Kong. Chinese troops halted at Kowloon and Hong Kong was left to the British. Saigon - French Forces have arrived at Saigon making it possible for General Gracey to hand over to General Leclerc. Batavia - The situation in Java is deteriorating and a number of British troops have been in action there. Sungei Patani - the largest ceremonial surrender of Japanese forces recently took place in Malaya. SHOTLIST: KOWLOON - Cavalry and Infantry of 27th Regiment Chinese 13th Army enter Kowloon. Various shots. Few RAF line route cheering etc. SAIGON - French troops disembark. March along quay and through streets. General Gracey inspects troops. MS Gracey and General Leclerc on airport. JAVA - GV Quay and Batavia port. British troops disembark from LCIs. British march off. British unload supplies. (Library shots of General Slim and Christisson, Dr Sukarno in garden with Cabinet). MALAYA - Sungei Patani - Near Penang. Pan shot of thousands of Japanese prisoners surrendering. Major General Woods accepting Major General Inouye’s Samurai sword. All this took place in torrential rain - fields flooded. Japanese at the double. CU many Samurai swords. Thousands of Japanese forced to march past Union flag and salute same. CU marching feet through flooded fields.
