MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: News From the East. DESCRIPTION: Saigon - General Leclerc arrives to take over the Governorship and received an enthusiastic welcome. Penang - The hoisting of the Union Jack by the Navy marked the official liberation of Penang, Malaya. Hong Kong - The liberation from the Japanese is celebrated in a colourful way by the Chinese of Hong Kong. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. LS General Leclerc alights from Dakota. Inspects Guard of Honour. Various shots of crowds lining route through which the above are driving. Torrential rain occurred during drive to palace, this did not damp the enthusiasm of crowds, this is at Saigon. At Penang British naval personnel march to flag mast. KS. Shots of Union Jack being unfurled. Nips marched through jeering crowds of locals. At Hong Kong KS. GV city, shows Cenotaph in background. Various shots of British naval personnel marchpast, Admiral Harcourt took the salute. Chinese celebrating, parading through streets, carrying banners, dragons, crowds cheering, carrying lanterns etc.
