DESCRIPTION: The Pretoria Castle went down the slipway in Belfast, launched via the radio by Mrs Smuts thousands of miles away in South Africa. SHOTLIST: KS GV ship’s bows - on stocks. Crowds around slipway. CU name Pretoria Castle on bows. Sir Vernon Thompson on launching platform addresses Mrs Smuts in South Africa over radio. GV bottle of champagne breaking on bows (launched by radio). Elevated shot as ship begins to move down slipway. Ship out of camera. Shot of ship in the water. Cut-in of workmen pulling away the piles, stocks etc. from underneath ship. The SS Pretoria Castle is a Union Castle liner.
