MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Leopold Crisis - Demonstrators Clash. DESCRIPTION: With Belgium split into two over the royal question, meetings, processions, demonstrations and riots led to a state of near-revolution. During the days that preceded King Leopold’s decision on the attribution of his rights to his son, clashes between police and public continued to grow in violence. SHOTLIST: KS. Riots under way. Various shots of riots, clashes with police. Spaak with Socialist demonstrators. Coaches arrive at palace with flowers being stoned. Various shots, all angles, of violent fighting between police & demonstrators. Mounted police charge rioters. Police with sten guns hit rioters with butts. Mounted police getting hit with chairs appearing to come from all directions. Police charge. Soldier refuses to moves when policeman points rifle at him. Various shots of rioters clashing with police. Some very good material here.
