- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Portsmouth Freedom for Churchill. DESCRIPTION: The Lord Mayor presented the freedom scroll in a handsome casket of oak from HMS Victory, before Mr Churchill addressed the gathering at Southsea. SHOTLIST: At Southsea - KS. Exterior of pier. Interior - Churchill preceded by Lord Mayor walks through cheering & applauding crowds. Churchill on stage turns & acknowledges. MS & SCU Lord Mayor (Alderman Sir Denis Daley) introducing Churchill. Lord Mayor hands casket & scroll. Churchill shows casket to audience. MS & SCU Churchill addressing the audience said, "Many things about me which I have to say on these occasions when I go to receive freedoms I hear at this time which no man should hear till he’s dead & I can assure you that the great kindness here & wherever I go on this beloved island," etc. etc. Loud applause - CU Churchill walking down steps & giving "V" sign - very good, please take very good care of this story as it will certainly be needed for the obituary story for Churchill when he dies.
