- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The King - National Anxiety. DESCRIPTION: The King’s early return from Balmoral had naturally aroused anxiety. An announcement that His Majesty was to undergo an immediate, major operation came as a shock to everyone. All the members of the Royal Family had gathered in London, including the Duke of Windsor. Princess Elizabeth kept a long-standing engagement by attending the premiere of The Lady with a Lamp at the Warner Theatre. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV Buckingham Palace. Crowds outside palace. GV crowds with palace & Standard flying in background. London Airport. Princess Margaret out of Viking, walks to car. At Warner Theatre Foyer, arrival of Princess Elizabeth greeted by Lady Mountbatten, introduced to Anna Neagle & Herbert Wilcox. Duke of Windsor out of house & into car. SCU of him seated in car. Crowds outside palace, & bulletin being put on rails. Mr Price Thomas leaves his St John’s Wood home, enters Rolls Royce. Crowds filing past bulletin outside palace. Good Scenes - GVs Buckingham Palace - various angles very good. CU gates of palace with Standard in background. CU Crest on palace gates. MS & SCU Royal Standard. Viking Landing at London Airport. SCU of Viking stationary & ladder being placed in position. Night material - Lights of London trucking shots - very useful. People reading headlines of newspapers & news vendors. Changing Guards outside Buckingham Palace, crowds look on.
