Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Cobb’s Fatal Speed Attempt. DESCRIPTION: John Cobb’s fatal run in Crusader was made only a few days after he had been visited by the Queen Mother at Loch Ness. It was just as he had completed one run over the measured mile at the record speed of 206.8 that the crash happened. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV lake Loch Ness. John Cobb & wife. Several shots. Cobb climbs into boat, several shots Cobb waves. Boat setting off in calm waters. Boat at speed during trials. Queen Mother arrives, alights from car greeted by John Cobb, several shots of her with Cobb’s wife chatting. Queen Mother departs. Cobb in boat sets off to break record. Several shots of it at speed, also coming into camera. Fatal run, plunges into water, debris floating, launch (LS) (rescue) on the spot. Finish on Cobb. Also short speech by John earlier on.
