- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Troopship Ablaze Empire Windrush. DESCRIPTION: Rescue vessels took the passengers and crew of the Empire Windrush to Algiers, the nearest port on the coast. French authorities provided immediate necessities before the Aircraft Carrier Triumph took them to Gibraltar. An airlift was organised to bring the troops and their families home to England. The Captain of the Empire Windrush, Captain Wilson was among those who told of their experiences and impressions of the fire. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Aerial of above ship ablaze. Destroyer (believed to be the St Kitts) towing ship. Stills of survivors in boats, various shots of Empire Windrush. Aircraft Carrier Triumph under way. At Algiers received food, clothing etc. Aircraft Carrier Triumph under way taking survivors to Gibraltar. Survivors disembark. Lady Mountbatten speaking to some. Survivors put aboard lorries & taking to quarters. At Blackbushe planes taxies, survivors disembark. Private Dixon gives account. Also interviewed was Captain Wilson of EW. Wives, children etc. walking to planes.
