- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: London Beats Budapest. DESCRIPTION: The flood-lit athletics at the White City was organised by the Evening News. The 100 metres was won by Hungarian, Jakabfy. The women’s 100 metres was one of the events that gave London its victory in the feminine section, this was won by June Paul. High Jumper Thelma Hopkins was another British winner, when she cleared 5’6. Ibbotson won the 1,500 metres and Sando won the 5,000 metres by inches from Hungarian Szabo. SHOTLIST: White City, the 100 metres John Young is in the lead, suddenly he falls. Hungarian Yakabfy wins the race. Young is helped off the track. Womens 100 metres - June Paul wins. Jack Crump congratulates her. High jumper, Thelma Hopkins was another British winner when she cleared 5 ft 6 ins. Various shots of a flaming hammer being used. 1500 metres between Derek Ibbotson and Gordon for London and Tabori and Iharos for Budapest. Ibbotson wins. 5000 metres Sando wins by inches.
