Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Queen Mother Returns Home. DESCRIPTION: Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother drove through Perth, Western Australia’s capital. When the Queen Mother waved goodbye to Australia, she was expecting to pay a visit to Kenya to open Nairobi’s new airport. This, however, she was unable to do. The airport was ready for its royal opening, but the Governor, Sir Evelyn Baring, went to perform the ceremony, while Her Majesty was held up in Mauritius. Miss Kenya, a 33-year-old machine was on view. But so was the airport’s first-class up-to-date control tower. A Comet was there taking part in the air display that followed the opening ceremony. A Vulcan bomber also made an impressive appearance. Over to London Airport, where the Queen, with Princess Margaret, and Princess Anne were waiting to welcome the Queen Mother home.
