Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Collection of a Lifetime. DESCRIPTION: 35 paintings, collected by Somerset Maugham over half a century, sold at Sotheby’s in less than an hour. They included a Renoir river scene, Gauguin’s picture of a Tahitian girl (painted on a glass door), and Picasso’s double painting, with Death of Harlequin on one side; Woman in a Garden on the other.
