Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Ariel in Orbit. DESCRIPTION: Ariel, the first international satellite to enter the space race, is a combination of British/American effort. The three-stage Thor-Delta rocket at Cape Canaveral was the launcher when Ariel went up. The lights on this model are tracking stations, one of which is at Winkfield in England. They will pick up messages from the satellite. SHOTLIST: Key scene. MS of sign on rocket, two flags crossed one US flag and one UK flag Cooperative Space Program. MS looking underneath rocket. MS rocket joining. MS men working on underneath of rocket. Various shots of satellite launch. Dissolve to MS model of rotating globe with lights on indicating tracking stations. LS Ariel turning round at Winkfield tracking station. Interior of tracking station showing controls etc. MS light passing round globe.
