Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Focus on Perth. DESCRIPTION: More than 1000 competitors from 35 Commonwealth countries are taking part in the Commonwealth Games. England’s bowling team won the first gold medal, with Captain Sid Drysdale the favourite. In the stadium Antao from Kenya became the fastest man in the Commonwealth in the men’s 100. Now a glimpse of the men’s high jump. Australia’s Hobson went on to strike gold at 6 ft 11. The men’s 110 yards free style was won by Canada’s Pound, with Scotland’s McGregor in second place. The final of the women’s 110 yards free style provided a chance to see Australia’s super-swimmer Dawn Fraser in action, and winning a gold medal. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV Floreat Park Stadium.
