- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Big Job for World’s Fastest. DESCRIPTION: The cable ship Mercury. She’ll be on her way to the Pacific under the command of Captain Reynolds where she’s to lay the Fiji-Honolulu link. It’s about 3000 miles of cable. The first 1000 mile lay, which is hoped to complete in 10 days, she’ll carry some 1200 nautical miles of cable.
