MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Big Job for World’s Fastest. DESCRIPTION: The cable ship Mercury. She’ll be on her way to the Pacific under the command of Captain Reynolds where she’s to lay the Fiji-Honolulu link. It’s about 3000 miles of cable. The first 1000 mile lay, which is hoped to complete in 10 days, she’ll carry some 1200 nautical miles of cable. Mercury latest and fastest of the world’s cable layers, cost around £2 million with another £2 1/2 million worth of equipment. SHOTLIST: Key scene. GV deck and cable laying equipment.
