Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Veterans of the River (In Colour). DESCRIPTION: Less than a hundred years ago, there were 8,000 sailing barges plying their trade along the Thames. Now, only a few remain, preserved with loving care by Trading Companies and enthusiasts who’ve fallen under the spell of these proud Sisters of Sail. Once a year, they’re gathered for the Thames Barge Race. This year was the centenary, an anniversary tinged with salty nostalgia, for it was the last Thames race of all. With the passing of these picturesque veterans of London’s river, we are the real losers! SHOTLIST: This was the centenary and the very last Thames Barge race ever to be held. Key scene. GV barges.
