MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Vegetables Grown in the Desert - in Colour. DESCRIPTION: Abu Dhabi - lettuces, cabbages, cucumbers and tomatoes are grown in large plastic green houses in the arid desert. The whole scheme is run by the University of Arizona with the help of the Arabs. Eventually could become the Covent Garden of the Middle East. SHOTLIST: AS desert sun blazing down on Terry King (BMN cameraman). SV King falls down on sand then picks himself up and staggers towards greenhouses in desert. CU King’s reaction in hot sun. LV King staggers towards greenhouse & opens door. SV pan down from extractor fans to tomatoes growing. LV pan exterior showing water cooling. LV looking through open door of greenhouse. STV water cooling system & tomatoes growing. CU Arab worker turning water tap on. SV pan along water pipe to cucumber plants pan up cucumber plants. CU cucumber growing on plant. SV interior seed nursery - concertinered paper seed holders being extended to full width for planting pan to ready sewn egg plants in various stages of growth. CU egg plants. GV pan from seed trays to advanced growth plants. CU green peppers. GV pan cabbages growing. CU cabbages. CU lettuces growing. GV interior pan cucumbers being packed & being treated with wax protection coating. STV cucumbers being treated through machine. CU man puts box of cucumbers on floor with boxes of other produce. CU boxes of produce. GV pan exterior from greenhouse to the open desert.
