MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Building in Fair City (Colour). DESCRIPTION: Movietone’s Cameras take a birds eye view of Dublin Fair City. Many Georgian style houses are being preserved, but throughout the City, glass and concrete office blocks are spreading like a space-age plague. SHOTLIST: GAV Dublin with River Liffey. GAV flying down River Liffey approaching Liberty Building & Butt Bridge. Angle shot tall Liberty Building. LV river with Liberty Building with Custom House in back ground. Liberty Building first tall building & houses the Federation of Irish Trade Unions. LV new Metropole Cinema & office block. GAV flying from Liberty Building down river to O’Connell Bridge & Street. LV traffic in O’Connell Street. Old Georgian houses in Merrion Square. SV Oscar Wilde’s birthplace in Merrion Square. CU plaque on wall Sir William Robert Willis Wilde 1815-1876 Surgeon, Archaeologist, Anthropologist, Antiquarian, Biographer, Statistician, Naturalist, Historian, Folklorist’, lived in this house from 1855-1876. LV George Bernard Shaw’s birthplace No 36 Synge Street (near Portobello Harbour). CU plaque on wall, "Bernard Shaw, author of many plays was born in this house 26th July 1956". GAV continuation flying down river past many buildings. LV Grand Canal pan to Fitzwilliam Court office block. GV pan from American Embassy in district of Ballsbridge to Hume House and new office block, in fore ground a group of old Georgian houses. SV new Hume House with Georgian houses in fore ground. Angle shot doorway & arch of Georgian House. SV 2 Georgian doorways. GV street with Georgian houses. SV 2 Georgian doorways. GV another street with Georgian houses (Pembroke Road in Ballsbridge area). GV Landowne House large new office block (Ballsbridge). Carisbrook House, Ballsbridge. SV pan up from canal to Astral House office block on Grand Canal. SV giant office block being built in Dame Street. SV construction in progress. LV pan up construction to crane at top. Angle pan showing overlapping roof under construction. GV pan from Grand Canal to large office Glanwilliam Court block under construction. SV Glanwilliam Court under construction. SV seagulls flying over Grand Canal. GV pan from seagulls & Grand Canal to old Portobello Canal House where canal passengers stayed overnight. This has been restored & being first for office space. GV Portobello Harbour pub alongside with TV engineer at top of mast fixing aerial for colour television. SV TV engineer fixing aerial. GAV flying down river past bridge and buildings.
