Summary
COI synopsis: Scientific and technological progress is self-defeating unless accompanied by increases in safety. This week, we look at examples of this progress aimed precisely at increasing the most important safety margin of all - human life. Lifeboatmen save lives - at the risk of their own. If this new inshore lifeboat turns over, it can easily be turned back again with a pull on an inflatable bag. And the soaked motor starts immediately! The secret: as the boat inverts, the motor instantly becomes completely water-tight.
