NoS synopsis: ‘Pheasant Rearing. Taken at the East Essex Game Farm’ intertitle with a still of the farm in the background. ' A view of the rearing ground _ These hens act as foster mothers and are seen being taken off the nests for feeding etc -'. Two men work in a field scattered with small hutches. Two men - one lifts a pheasant out of a hutch and passes it to the other who ties the bird to a stake and lets it down. They repeat this process along a row of hutches. Close up of a man lifting a hutch lid and a pheasant escapes leaving a nest full of a dozen eggs. The man lifts another lid to find as the hen escapes that some chicks have hatched. He picks them up and puts them in a box that the camera pans to show. It is already full of chicks. ‘Three minutes old - Note how much larger the young pheasant is compared to the egg -' Close up of a young pheasant and egg in the palm of a man’s hand. ‘Two hours old - Ready for the rearing field -'. Close up of much larger chicks scrabbling in the dirt in front of a pen with a hen in. Close up of a tray full of chicks. A hand picks up one to show to the camera. Close up of young pheasants behind netting. There are six hens and one cock. ‘Packing pheasants’ eggs for dispatch.' A woman in a smock and hat walks outside a building carrying two baskets full of eggs. She sits on top of a barrel and wraps an egg in straw. Close up as she packs the eggs and straw into a tall basket and closes the lid. It is labelled "With Care. Live Pheasant’s Eggs. The East Essex game Farm, Wivenhoe". - Keywords
