NoS Summary - Joe Noble animation predicting bizarre hat contraptions that will exist by 1950.
British Pathe synopsis: "A Fashion Forecast for 1950 by our Captive Cartoonist - Joe Noble." Introductory intertitle reads: "In olden times fashions were designed simply for looks. No attention was paid to utility." Drawing of a man who wears a hat with a feather sticking out of it. C/U drawing of a woman wearing a shawl around her head. Drawing of a woman in the year 1300 wearing a draped head dress. Mediaeval style headgear. 1400 A.D. is represented by a scarf with a little hat perched on top. A wimple is next. Various depictions of Elizabethan head gear and other styles from other eras follow. "Our cartoonist, normally quite harmless, foretells a few "useful" fashions of the future." Through stop frame animation we see drawings and words appear from the point of a pencil. "Poor old henpeck. Even he will be looked after in 1950." A man is shown laden down with parcels. Joe Noble draws him a hat with little pegs all around the edges so that he can hook the parcels over them. There is a special place for him to put his season ticket. "In 1950, the man who is always cold will welcome this... The Brazier Bowler" - a hat with a fire inside. "The "Tamachute" A bright idea for the air girl of the future. A combination hat and parachute."

Animated sequence of a woman aviator flying along in a plane then baling out with her hat as a parachute. "The "Artful Dodger" - an effective disguise always at hand!" A man in a hat which features a large feather suddenly exclaims: "Horrors! My Tailor!" He flips the feather down and it becomes a disguise beard. "The Bandit Bosher." Here’s a really smart idea for the girl about town. A combination of hat & automatic boxing glove, it is guaranteed to cause a sensation." Animation of a girl walking along. A robber with a gun says: "Stick ‘em up sister!" and twirls his gun. The girl presses a button on the side of her hat and a boxing glove appears and socks the robber on the chin. "That’s the "Bandit Bosher" That was!" Next is "The Radiotoque. In 1950, ultra-powerful radio transmission will bring back the crystal receiver... Take a peep inside her hat!" Inside her hat is, of course, a radio with earphones. The earth system runs through a metal gauze back seam on her tights. "Of course, the "Radio-hog" will be with us always." A man who wears a huge radio on his head appears next.

"The Super’hat’rodyne - A 22 valve howling success. Back pedalling bandpass. Input...100 MFD. Output... horrible." Animation of man walking along with his radio hat. He gets struck by lightening. The radio hat explodes: "Crikey... I must have got the weather report!" he says.
