Summary
NoS Summary - mountaineers scale the Gabelhorn mountain in the Pennines.
British Pathe synopsis: "Man, in his never-ending effort to conquer Nature, provides some wonderful feats of pluck and endurance. One such feat is the scaling of the towering Gabelhorn in the Pennine Alps. The climbers make short work of the lower trails." M/S of mountaineers joined by ropes, making their way up the side of the Gabelhorn. M/S of them as they clamber over rocks. "Up the bed of a torrent and across the glacier from which it comes." L/S of men crawling across a shelf of ice beside a fast moving river. M/S of two climbers silhouetted against a river which crashes over rocks. L/S of man using an ice pick to assist his climb of a sheer rock face covered in ice. "With the aid of a rocket their line is passed around the tower of bare rock." M/S of man preparing his "rocket" - it is fired into the air. M/S of man pulling on the rope which has presumably gone around the back of the tower. "The final effort requires great determination and an iron nerve." L/S of the men making their way up the sheer rock face. "The top is gained - 13,300 feet above sea level." L/S of man clambering to the top. He stands on the very top of the rock. "An extraordinary but beautiful Alpine view rewards this great feat." Panning shot of snowy mountainside.
