- Summary
- Rhodesian Spotlight Commentary - Once again we return to Kariba to note a particular phase in the Kariba story. So over to the airport as 30 Italian families arrive to live and work on the project.
Entering the Federal Power Board area they soon come at Kariba Village which now has quite an impressive main street - well perhaps spacious would be a better word than impressive.
The Italians were driven to the clubhouse with its aluminium rondavels and from the verandah they looked down on a large expanse of Africa which will be flooded by the dam. That however is still some time ahead, meanwhile the project is really beginning to take shape, and work which has been going on day and night is now showing spectacular results. There is an undeniable fascination in the harnessing of that mighty river - more perhaps than in any other undertaking on the huge African continent. Work will be speeded up by the arrival of a larger Italian labour force, but so much remains to be done before Kariba stands complete in all its final splendour. - Keywords
