- Synopsis
- Documentary. Attempts to recreate Elizabethan times to gain insight into Shakespeare’s life and personality.The programme, hosted by Willis F. Woods, was videotaped on location at the Detroit Institute of Arts during the Institute’s ‘World of Shakespeare’ exhibition in 1964. It uses historic documents, maps, furniture, books and clothing along with narration and scene readings to illuminate the Elizabethan age. Actors reading parts offscreen are Paul Scofield, John Gielgud, Richard Burton, Albert Finney, Claire Bloom, Rex Harrison, Margaret Leighton and Trevor Howard.
