- How did Shakespeare’s Othello develop into Verdi’s Otello and which of the two works is the greater? Opinions differ as do interpretations. Jonathan Miller, who has recently directed Shakespeare’s play for television and Verdi’s opera for the London Coliseum, gives his own analysis of the character illustrated by a few recorded extracts from the two works.
