With Kings

Synopsis
Fiction short. Matt is a young Australian builder living in modern-day Sydney. He watches television while his girlfriend, Jess, an attractive young actress, fights for his attention. He has promised to help her with an audition for Much Ado About Nothing. An argument erupts as Jess challenges Matt about the strength of his love for her using the example of Benedick in the play who is willing to ‘kill Claudio’ to prove his love for Beatrice. Jess storms out and Matt finds himself alone. He discovers Jess has left a copy of her favourite Shakespearean sonnet 29 (`When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes’) behind. He begins to read it.The next day Matt goes to work on his building site, sonnet in one hand - hammer in the other. Meanwhile Jess, at her audition, waits anxiously as the casting agents decide between her and another young hopeful. She fails the audition. Later that day, as she sits harbourside reflecting on her failure, Matt arrives. He sits with her and hears her disappointment and sadness at missing out on the part. He then relates the sonnet to her in an attempt to comfort her. [Synopsis taken from the film’s website].
