- Summary
- Many service personnel are among the Derby crowds, being run this year at Newmarket. The off, and Tommy Carey keeps "Straight Deal" in with a bunch until the last furlong and then gives him his head. "Straight Deal" wins by a head from Umiddad and Nasrullah (The Aga Khan’s horse). Miss Dorothy Paget leads in her first Derby winner.
