- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: King & Queen Visit IOM - Special. DESCRIPTION: Their Majesties arrived at Douglas to be met by the Lieutenant-Governor, Vice Admiral Lord Granville. They made a tour of the Promenade where they received a joyous welcome. From Douglas they drove to Ramsey and from there visited many of the smaller towns on the island. They made an unscheduled stop at Tynwald Hill, as the King wished to see the historic spot. On the following day Their Majesties attended a meeting of the Tynwald and Morning Prayer in the Chapel of St John’s. There was an Investiture at which Deemster Cowley received the CBE and men of the Armed Forces were presented with their awards. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Launch alongside quay, King off, greeted by Vice Admiral Lord Granville. Also Lady Granville (Queen’s niece, Lady Mary Leveson-Gower). King & Queen meet officials. Drive along Douglas promenade. Crowds & children wave, small flags etc. Queen given a bouquet, then two paintings by William Hoggatt (the artist). Driving along the east coast to Ramsey, cheers of enthusiasm. Royal Car drives into Bishop’s Court, in ground with Bishop of Sodor, seated in chairs for photographs. King & Queen plant oak trees. Girl presents Queen with basket of fruit. Tour - through beflagged lanes, streets etc. CU old lady 82 years seen four generations. K&Q stop at Tynwald Hill, walk round historic spot. Another bouquet for the Queen. Next day, official opening of Parliament at Tynwald Hill, procession from St John’s Chapel to the Hill. Outgoing coroners surrendered their staves of office, the King handed same to their successors. Deemster Cowley receives the CBE., Soldiers also receives awards. Procession from Hill to Chapel, inside Parliament in progress. Here the 24 Keys sat at table with King & Lord Granville. Procession leaves St John’s Chapel.
