- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Port Elizabeth Greets Royal Namesakes. DESCRIPTION: It was a great day for the town of Port Elizabeth when the Royal Family visited. A rally of 18,000 school children in St George’s Park greeted the King, Queen and two Princesses. There was also a Garden Party with about 4,000 guests. SHOTLIST: KS Shot from Royal train, GV convoy of cars going along road, parallel with railway. GV crowds around Royal car as it enters St George’s Park. GV hundreds of European children waving flags and cheering. King & Queen alight from open car, greeted by Lord Mayor, cut-ins of children cheering. Royal Family being presented to distinguished residents. Prior to this he signs the Golden Book. MS of him signing. Royal Party step off dais. Children cheering, GV car departing. SLIP PAN Again at St George’s Park, coloured children greet Their Majesties. Coloured children present bouquets to the Queen, Princesses Elizabeth & Margaret. Peter Townsend can be seen in shot as Princess Margaret receives her bouquet, he is smiling. GV coloured children and grown ups cheering, waving etc. Royal Family drive through Port Elizabeth, Main Street, GV of same, crowds surge forward to see Their Majesties. GV Garden Party at Victoria Park, picturesque. King, Queen, Mr Sime Neave and his wife walk over bridge (veteran mayor) across stream. More GVs of the Royal Family surrounded by guests. Trucking shot through street, crowds wave as Royal car passes. Royal Family inspect the largest grape vine in South Africa. MS of grape vine. MS Royal Family entering open car. MS of them seated in same (very good). At Graaff-Reinet, Queen talks (silent) to Mrs Fletcher, 101 years old, several shots of her also shaking hands with her, old lady is seated in invalid’s chair. CU - MS & GVs of Bantu natives dancing and shouting their welcomes, Royal car passes along street, not stopping, as Bantus continue their dances. Royal Family walk into enclosure overlooking snake park, shots of cobras, puff-adders, mombas, etc. wriggling around on the ground and rearing their heads. Native attendants Johannes & Daniel, start performing, picking snakes up, cut-ins of Royal Family looking on, the Queen points to one. SCU & CU keeper wrapping snake round his neck, the cobra then unwinds himself and rears its head and bites at the keeper’s face, the keeper just stopping him.
