MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Coal - Priority No 1. DESCRIPTION: The new National Coal Board’s priority is to improve conditions in the industry. One answer is the Mines Mechanisation Training Centre at Sheffield. Another is the improved amenities for miners. SHOTLIST: KS GV overhead cable carriageway, transporting coal, one grab drops it’s load. Interior - Lord Hyndley and Lord Citrine seated at table. Mr Will Lawther and Mr Arthur Horner seated together at debating table. GV trainees in classroom being instructed. Trainees assembling motors, engines etc., several close ups of same. SCU pithead tower, shows large wheel. Inside mine, MS Mecco-Moore Cutter cutting through coal. Duckbill loader at work, coal going along conveyor of Duckbill. Several shots of miners pick-axing. SCU Joy Loader working, scooping up the coal. Small locomotive hauls coal trucks through coalmine. Coal truck tipped upside down. Lift shaft working. Elevated exterior shot of coalmine, shows coal trucks being shunted etc. GV pithead shows water fountain in foreground. Interior shots - door leading to clean lockers. Inside miners shower-bathing, changing their clothes. Lining up for food, food being handed over counter. Two general views of coalmine, show pitheads and cornfields in foreground. This is believed to be in Scotland.
