Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Chatham Island Filmed for First Time. DESCRIPTION: The Chatham Islands, part of the Dominion of New Zealand, lying in the Southern Pacific. SHOTLIST: Flying boat takes off from Wellington, shots of plane in flight. Aerials of the above island. Lagoons and lakes of the island. At Waitiki, the crew etc. come ashore, natives and Maoris of the town turn out to greet them. Horse drawn carts make their way across rugged country. GV main street of town, shows Post Office, small crowd gathered outside to collect their mail. White inhabitants of the island reading weeks old papers etc. MS operator sending out Morse code to mainland. Small hotel for travellers. GVs of memorial building ‘Hall of Memories’. Countryside and roads just a quagmire. Surveyors prepare to build roads. Sheep grazing in the fields, various shots. Chatham island is a remote outpost of the Dominion of New Zealand.
