- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Government Retains South Hammersmith. DESCRIPTION: After a hard fought campaign, the Government retains its Hammersmith seat. Mr Churchill, leader of the opposition, toured the constituency on the eve of the election. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS Car makes its way through crowds. SCU Tom Williams canvassing, calling at houses & talking to individuals. Anthony Fell (Conservative) calls at houses & various places canvassing. Churchill & Fell drives through crowded streets, amid cheering in open car. Successful Labour MPs in by-election standing outside Labour Party offices. They then drive through Hammersmith in procession of cars. People polling. MS polling station, cripples, blind etc. arrive at polling station. Police deliver ballot boxes, which are emptied. Returning Officer seated at desk helping to count votes. Elevated GV night crowds outside Town Hall. Mayor reads out results, crowds cheer before finish. Mayor asks for silence, & finishes reading out results. Crowds cheering. Interior Fell congratulates Williams.
