Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Candidates in the Constituencies. DESCRIPTION: Politics have left Parliament and come to the people. Election candidates all over the country hand in their nomination papers and go canvassing from door to door. SHOTLIST: KS. Crowds in street around mobile broadcasting van, with dustman & small cart in fore. SCU Mrs Braddock. Group around Mrs Bessie Braddock. GV Rhondda Valley. SV CU Harry Pollitt looks across countryside in pouring snow. MS miners, Pollitt interviews (silent) them. Shinwell walks through colliery, talks (silent) to miners, strokes pit-pony. GV Woolwich Town Hall. Mr Ernest Bevin alights from car & enters. Handing over deposit. Attlee enters Walthamstow Town Hall, handing over deposit & signing. Morrison outside Lewisham Town Hall, with his agent etc. drives off in small car, himself driving. Interior - RA Butler hands over deposit at Saffron Walden. SCU Butler. Anthony Eden enters room & shakes hands. Signing on dotted line & hands over deposit. Exterior - Mr Bithell (Eden’s opponent) canvassing in streets of Warwick, little boy opens door to him. Newport - Ivor Thomas walks up hill into camera - to CU. Holds up baby. WJ Brown at Rugby pats & kisses baby. Bruce Belfrage canvassing amongst caravans. Kisses baby. Colonel Byers speaking (silent) through mike from back of car. Richard Law among the dockers at Hull, talking (silent). Law leans against trawler. At Liverpool, Sir David Maxwell Fyfe preceded by women sweeping the roads then making an avenue, Sir David Maxwell Fyfe walks into camera.
