Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: America’s Big Storm. DESCRIPTION: An impression of the most violent storm ever recorded in New York - a storm that did a hundred million dollars worth of damage and caused over 200 deaths as well as many casualties. In Pennsylvania and Ohio they had a 30 inch snow fall and all the fun that goes with it. SHOTLIST: KS. Flooded street being lashed with winds. Ditto. Tree laying across house. People being rescued from their houses, some injured. Howling wind, person repairs telegraph wires, perched up top of pole. At Sheeps Head Bay, lashing seas, various shots of small craft being dashed against quays, smashed to match-wood. At Manhattan, cars along road in howling wind & pouring rain, also flooded. People endeavouring to stand in strength of wind. Two hold onto lamp-post. Sign hanging by one connection. Various shots of steam pipe burst, causing a fog in streets, already under water (partially). GV Le Guardia Airport. Shots underwater, of Le Guardia Airport. Shot of marker underwater. LS plane lands on parts of undamaged airport. Various shots of hundreds of cars at airport, almost covered with water. Aerial of snow covered Pennsylvania & Ohio. Ground shots GV of snow covered, 30 feet deep. Men dig out their cars covered in snow. At Winthrop, Mass., seas lashing the wall, people race away from huge waves as they crash over wall.
